Mátyás Durkó and József Szabó: The challenge of the millenium

The essay gives a detailed analysis of the modern challenge of interdisciplinarity existing at the end of the millennium in economic, cultural and scientific aespects of the society. More specifically, it proves the actuality of the above issue in cultural education, educational scienca, research on andragogy and academic work related to these fields. The essay reaches a taxonomic and theoretical conclusion, which considers a unified antropagogie to be the basic problem of comparative research in educational and cultural sciences (which use essentially common methods). It classifies education on the basis of the specific status of its object in the society, its age, frame of its cultural activity, etc., differentiating between pedagogy (education of the young generations), and the science of education/self-education of adult people (andragogy), and education/self-education of the elderly generation (gerontagogy). Finally, the essay deals with the issue of integrating science in the human and economic fields emphasizing its academic organisation and evaluation concerns (e.g. accreditation, evaluation of dissertations).
