Wolfgang Mitter: The transformations of European education with special attention to the unified Germany

This paper discusses the concept and meaning of transformation, paying special attention to the system of education in the unified Germany. Transformation can be regarded from three aspects (systematic, historical and geographical), which are intertwined through their complex interferences. The function of the education system in transformation processes extends those of execution and support. The effects of transformation processes are tangible in German education today, new generations still face them today. This process is not unique to Germany, as it can be observed in the system of education of the new countries as well.
